“Blurring Life and Work: The Predicament of Young Middle-Class Women in Shanghai” book explores the harmful impacts of the bleeding barriers between life and work that middle-class women in Shanghai face.

The publication highlights the impact of the inevability of work culture seeping through into Shanghai women’s lives with the bleeding typography symbolism. The washed Chinese characters such as 生活 (life) and 工作 (work) represents this idea as well.

The red ink and bold, calendar-style numbers encapsulates the polarities of the idealised working women lifestyle and its negative impacts (phsyical and emotional suffering), while incorporating subtle Chinese cultural elements.

The singer sewing binding used symbolises the inescapable connection between life and work, further reinforcing the idea of the inescapable work’s dominance over life.
